Due to the unexpected power outage in Sioux Lookout today, the equipment was switched from the old UPS to the new UPS when the old UPS ran out of power at about 10:30AM. This caused a network interruption for about 5 minutes at that time.

We will be changing the power feed for the equipment at the library from the old UPS providing 15 minutes of runtime to the new UPS providing 24 hours + of runtime. We we also install a monitoring module in the old UPS and replace UPS batteries as it will continue to be used for servers located at the library. The switchover of the power for the net work equipment will result in a short interruption of network services for anyone connected to the Sioux Lookout fiber loop. It will also disrupt internet connectivity for all satellite sites. The duration of the network outage is expected to be 5 - 10 minutes at the most. The work on the old UPS will affect a limited number of services as the servers at the library are primarily for backup. In particular affected will be the Municipalities Mail Server and possibly the K-Net PRI and all customers utilizing the PRI. The outage for the servers is expected to be about 1 hour.
I am proposing this work to be done on Tuesday June 1 at 12:01AM (Monday night at midnight).
